"Art Nouveau" was an art movement popular from roughly 1890 to 1905 before being replaced by Art Deco, but had a revival in the 60's. It was most popular in Britain and other parts of Europe, and because of the range of areas many artists adapted the style to their own liking, creating a variety of Nouveau styles. Though now all varieties are called 'art nouveau' they used to be known by different names depending on the region. The basis of the style has elegant and intricate lines and hoped to lose the historical art previously popular in the 1800's which is why it's classified as modern art.

"Dada" was a movement that began in Switzerland around 1916 after the first World War. It was mocking towards nationalism, and opposed the bourgeois. The art itself is all so different that you can't get one specific style called Dada.

"Abstract Expressionism" started in New York around the 1940's. This shifted the focus of the art world to the US for the first time. Because of the Great Depression, other art movements had become popular, but young artists wanted a different, more meaningful kind of art. "German Expressionism" was popular from 1905 to 1935. It was first made known in Munich and Dresden. The artists distorted color, space, and scale to convey the feeling of the painting rather than the realism. But after the war, German Expressionism became more of a protest movement and was only then categorized as Modern Art. "Op Art" had it's greatest popularity in the 60's, starting in 1964 to present day. The artists were wanted to work with the behavior of the eye, and used abstract compositions for ranging kinds of optical illusions. They typically only worked in black and white so that they could have greater contrast in their paintings and confuse the eye even more. "Pop Art" started in the 1950's and ended around the early 1970's. It's currently most well known for it's New York artists. It became far from traditional art of morality, mythology, and history.
